O hair implant is a surgical technique in which small scalp grafts with strands or small groups of two to three strands of areas with more hair are removed and implanted in the parts of the head with little or no hair. The area from which the wires are taken for the implant is called the donor area and is usually the side or the back of the head.
This procedure may be accompanied by clinical treatment to minimize and in some cases control hair loss. The ancient techniques of capilar implant they used wide bands of scalp and could be perceived more easily. Today, surgeons use mini-grafts and micro-grafts because they give the implanted wires a more natural look.
Mini-grafts and micrografts have two to four threads in general and punctured (rounded) grafts have 10 to 15 threads. It is believed that the end result of the hair transplant can be seen only two years after starting treatment.
Typically 150 to 300 wires are grafted in each session, but there are surgeons who offer sessions where they are placed around three thousand wires. Doctors who are opposed to mega sessions claim that because the wires are placed too close together, they have less survival.
