Much of the information about breast cancer that circulates around it does not correspond to reality and has no scientific basis. The most common beliefs about breast cancer are as follows:

  • Stress is one of the causes of the disease;
  • Who has no family history is free of the disease;
  • The implantation of silicone prostheses increases the chances of cancer appearing;
  • Abortion, even if spontaneous, increases the risk of breast cancer;
  • Eating food with pesticides causes breast cancer;
  • Antiperspirant deodorants cause cancer;
  • Do not wear a metal-rimmed bra in the bulge to prevent breast cancer;

Truths

It is important to remember that visits to the gynecologist are extremely important to prevent breast cancer and that when noticing lumps or any other change in breasts, the woman should immediately seek medical attention. Also you need to be aware of the risk factors of disease onset:

  • Cases of breast cancer in the family, especially if the relationship is first degree (mother, sister), put the woman in the risk group;
  • Breast cancer is associated with age, ie the older you are, the greater the chance of developing the disease;
  • Mammography is the main form of early diagnosis of the disease and should be done annually to detect tumors;
  • Those who are menstruating too early or having late menopause (after age 50) are more likely to develop breast cancer;
  • Pregnancies after age 30 and not having children also increase the risks;
  • Being overweight makes a woman more susceptible to illness;
  • Lack of vitamin D in the body may increase the chances of breast cancer;
  • Regular alcohol intake and cigarette addiction increase the chances of getting the disease.
