How to encourage your child to read

Reading a book is always a thrill. A journey of those who do not leave the place. A moment of pleasure. But not all people have this habit. Therefore, the ideal is to stimulate children from a young age. This is not an easy task, as little children now have a variety of electronic devices available at their fingertips that are often considered more attractive. But only one book can provide a time when creativity and imagination are loose with the stories and their characters. Elements that help the human being in cognitive, social and affective development.

Psychopedagogue Amanda Elias Castanheira explains that there is no right age for the child to start getting involved with books. The most important factor is contact with the world of information and make-believe. One can begin to stimulate the little ones, even if not yet literate, by reading images, with children's books that are a stimulating alternative.

Parenting at home is also an effective way to get a child interested in reading. But it doesn't have to be just a book. Try to read newspapers, magazines, and other materials in front of them. "A family that uses alternate means of access to written information triggers in the child the desire to read various materials," explains Amanda.

At the beginning of literacy, parents can read to the child, and then along with it. But it is very important to respect the time of the little one or even to check if he is understanding the story. To do this, take breaks or ask him to tell you the story. And if necessary, retell the facts. Use creativity to stimulate children's imagination. Use the moment in favor of the family. "Reading together stimulates relationships and reinforces social bonds," says the psychopedagogue.

When the child is in school, he or she is usually given the task of reading material. ? It is important that parents are in tune with the school and bring home the books suggested by the institution ?, explains. If the work is already known to parents, it is interesting to share with their children the experiences they had with reading.

The stimulus must also be done by other means. One tip is to take the kids out for a walk in libraries, bookstores, or book stores, but it's not important to buy a title whenever they go to these places. What matters here is the contact and the ride.

At home, try to create a corner where children feel comfortable reading. Try a cozy sofa or even a nice cushion on a rug. Make available on this site a shelf with some titles. Easy access is a major stimulus.

But remember, reading should not be viewed by the child as an obligation. The moment must be associated with pleasure. "The act should not follow a script, it should occur naturally and be a spontaneous and pleasant habit", concludes the psychopedagogue, Amanda Elias Castanheira.
