How to keep the new weight after losing weight

Losing weight is not always an easy task: it requires dedication, perseverance and change of habit. However, when this is a person's real goal or, in some cases, even a necessity depending on their health, surely every effort is worth it!

After all, nothing more satisfying than getting on the scale or doing an assessment with your nutritionist and checking that? after days, months or even years of persistence? You have achieved the results you expected!

But, this is where a lot of people think the? Battle? ended, with a totally positive balance, and that, from now on, everything can be as before the diet? no worries about weight, food calories, restrictions on certain products, physical activity etc. However, this is a big mistake.

Maintaining the new weight also requires dedication, perseverance and, above all, that the good habits learned during the weight loss period continue to be performed.

Sounds complicated, doesn't it? But the truth is that losing weight and maintaining the ideal weight is not a "seven-headed animal", it is totally possible, as long as the person runs after his goal in the best way possible from the beginning, that is: as soon as it starts the process of weight loss.

Why not adhere to the fad diets?

Brunna Reis, Contours Academy nutritionist, points out that the perfect way to lose weight, maintain a beautiful body and ideal weight is to always have a balanced diet combined with physical exercise forever.

The nutritionist explains that women who lose weight and, later, get fat, are generally those who diet for some time and, after losing weight, abandon all healthy habits. "Or those who did very restrictive diets and when they went back to eating 'normal', the weight came back," he says. "Sometimes in these cases they gain even more weight than they could lose," he adds.

It is a fact that nowadays many people adhere to the so-called "fad diets", usually radical, wanting to lose weight fast. Some even go for medicine to achieve their goals.

However, explains nutritionist Brunna, the problem with these diets is that they even help you lose weight, but it's not fat that you lose, but muscle mass. "Therefore, the weight comes back when the person stops dieting because the fat has not been eliminated," he says.

In addition to subsequent weight gain, the "fad diets" can pose several health risks. "This varies greatly with the style of each diet, but the risks range from nutrient deficiency, liver steatosis, altered cholesterol, osteoporosis, among others," says Brunna Reis.

Psychologist Luciana Kotaka, specialist in Obesity and Eating Disorders and co-author of the books? Slim Behavior with Health and Pleasure? and “Slim Stomach versus Fat Thinking”, explains that we live in a very immediate moment, where there is no tolerance to wait for a gradual, safer and more productive process. "We know that healthy weight loss takes longer and is more efficient, but nobody wants to be involved in the process, using everything that seems easy and effective," he says.

The professional adds that it is because of these factors that are gradually increasing the cases of eating disorders, especially compulsion and bulimia.

Does the psychologist also cite the cases of compulsion (BED) and anxiety? situations that should be monitored, in addition to psychology, also the psychiatrist, justifying an appropriate medication that favors weight loss. "This is because these are more serious conditions that prevent eating properly, compromising the quality of life of the person," he says.

Regarding weight loss medications, Luciana Kotaka adds that they have not shown lasting results, quite the contrary, the percentage of success is minimal. "In my office is very clear: virtually every clientele I serve has a history of fad diets, medications and never managed to stabilize weight," he says.

Luciana reinforces that radical diets and the use of medications do not lead to effective weight loss, as there are rare cases in which the new weight is maintained. "An unbalanced diet can have health consequences, and may even lead to a higher risk in people with an undiagnosed disease or even nutritional deficiency," he says.

Not to mention the risk of developing eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia and compulsion, which, as pointed out by psychologist Luciana, are the main consequences of fad diets. They are diseases with difficult treatment that involves a team like psychiatrist, psychologist and nutritionist.And in the case of severe anorexia, hospitalization ?, explains.

How and why follow a healthy diet

So there is no shortage of reasons to avoid so-called fad diets:

  • In general, they provide only muscle loss and not fat loss;
  • Cause weight to be regained again;
  • In some cases, they cause the person to gain more weight than they previously lost;
  • They can cause health problems, such as nutrient deficiency, liver steatosis, altered cholesterol, osteoporosis, among others;
  • They can trigger eating disorders, which require difficult and multidisciplinary treatments.

In this sense, it is clear that the only way to maintain the new weight is to follow from the beginning, a healthy diet that includes the practice of physical activities.

• A healthy weight loss diet should be based on dietary rehabilitation. A good diet, with a balanced menu, well distributed in nutrients ?, says Brunna Reis. "There should be no shortage of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and plenty of water," he adds.

Regarding physical activities, the nutritionist points out that they increase the daily calorie expenditure, so they act significantly in the weight loss process. "They are also important because they provide a feeling of well-being, as well as leaving the person with more willingness and energy in everyday life," he says.

Luciana Kotaka reinforces that, when losing weight, the rule is simple and already known: one should continue to eat correctly, less quantity and more quality, and continue with physical activities, which favor the maintenance of healthy weight.

The psychologist also highlights that people? both those who want to lose weight, as those who only seek to maintain the new weight? Should you never use food as a form of comfort? That is, to? Compensate? sadness, loneliness, low self-esteem, anxiety etc. "If this happens, psychotherapy becomes essential, so that you learn to eat for hunger and not for the desire to eat," he says.

This is because, explains Luciana, food from an early age comes as a form of comfort. “From baby we drink warm milk that comforts and causes well-being. And often this eating behavior is reinforced by the family: the child cries, gives milk; The daughter is sad, she makes Brigadier. Thus, in therapy, this relationship will be worked food-comfort, reinforcing other ways to solve unpleasant situations other than eating ?, highlights.

Thus, it is clear that, having a good control over your feelings and desires, always following a healthy diet and practicing physical activities, the ideal weight achieved by the person? probably with enough effort during a diet period? will be maintained. And, in addition to continuing with a beautiful and healthy body, she will continue with health and quality of life.
