How to pack a suitcase

Traveling is a delight! But packing is not always an easy task, especially for women, who usually have more things than men.

After all, when you have to choose what to take, everything seems to be indispensable and questions arise about what is a priority, what can be set aside, and especially how to accommodate all the luggage.

The good news, however, is that with a few simple tricks, it's easier to take everything you need, making the most of your suitcase space. Below, the personal organizer Claudia Moura, qualified by OZ! Organize Your Life and company director Claudia Moura Personal Organizer, gives the tips:

At the time of choosing the suitcase

According to Claudia Moura, the best options are the rectangular ones, which are also the most common. The ideal size will depend on the length of time you are out and the size of the family.

Families with small children can opt for a large suitcase in which everyone's things will fit. The upside is that you only have one volume to worry about, he says. "For families with older children, the best option is for each child to have his suitcase, since at this stage the children are not always staying with their parents," he adds.

The personal organizer also points out that there are some special suitcases for suits and shirts. These are ideal for business trips where it is necessary to carry various social clothes.

What to take?

It is true that most women are a little exaggerated when packing up! Many would like to be able to put a wheel in the wardrobe and take it all, right? But as this is not possible, you must be very rational when choosing what to take.

What should be considered: how long you will be staying; the weather of the place; climate change and events (will you go out to dinner? dance? etc.) ?, says Claudia Moura.

The personal organizer's tip is always to think of pieces that can be used more than once and that combine with many things. For example, a pair of jeans can be worn about three times, so take it with three shirts. So you already have three looks assembled? He says. "Basic, neutral-colored parts also help make the combination," he adds.

Who goes to the beach will most likely be in swimsuits and slippers most of the time? So why take 4 pants, 17 shorts, 12 dresses and 5 pairs of high heels ?! Surely all this is not necessary, however tempted you may be to bring your favorite wardrobe items.

"Consider well the possibility of an event that needs these more chic clothes," warns Claudia Moura. But, if you realize that you will not actually participate in many events at night, do not overdo the assembly of the looks to take.

For the cold, the personal organizer's tip is to take a warm, neutral-colored coat such as black, brown or off white. So you can vary only the underwear (shirts, blouses and pants).

"The same thought goes for shoes: take basic, comfortable pairs that match the season so you can wear them more than once and avoid taking the entire shoe rack," explains Claudia.

Packing the suitcase

The time has come to put everything in the suitcase: get to work! Claudia Moura points out that, regardless of whether it is by plane or car, whether it is a short or long trip, the tips are basically the same.

? The main rules are: clothes that wrinkle less should go under the suitcase like jeans, twill, wool. And clothes that crumple more, besides being on top, should be folded as little as possible to prevent them from getting too many brands ?, explains the personal organizer.

Following, Claudia explains how to proceed with packing the suitcase:

  1. First the trousers: Put these stretched pieces on the bottom of the bag with your legs out. After putting everything on, fold your pant legs over the other clothes.
  2. Then put on shorts and shorts.
  3. Then put on the dresses. "They should be folded as little as possible and stretched out, with some of the clothes out of the bag (as was done with the pants)," says the personal organizer.
  4. T-shirts should be folded as usual? that traditional fold? and then rolled up. "These pieces can be placed in the corners and empty spaces of the suitcase," says Claudia.
  5. Underwear should be placed in bags (which may be those of TNT) to make it easier to find them.
  6. In the case of trips to the beach or summer: the sleeves should be put stretched and the bikinis and swimsuits in individual plastic bags. "They will also protect your clothes on the way back if the swimwear is still wet," remembers the personal organizer.
  7. Shoes can be placed in individual TNT bags, Zip bags (if they are small number shoes) or even disposable shower caps (to protect the sole of the shoe). "They can be packed in a separate compartment in the suitcase or, if protected, placed right next to the clothes, preferably in the corners of the suitcase," explains Claudia.
  8. Should it be necessary to bring many shoes or snow shoes? which are large and heavy - the ideal is a separate suitcase, not to wrinkle the clothes.
  9. Toiletries, cosmetics, medicines and makeup should be placed in a bottle. But if you do not want or do not have a bottle, the tip is to pack these products in sachets separated by type (hygiene / cosmetics / medicine / makeup) and distribute in empty spaces. Liquid products that may leak into the suitcase should be placed in plastic bags. Are those ZIP files great ?, highlights Claudia Moura.
  10. Make your pajamas and underwear easy to pick up so you don't have to unpack your whole bag after a long trip. "You can stop doing this after resting," says the personal organizer.
  11. If possible, bring some (a few) laundry hangers. “Pieces that have been slightly dented can be placed on this hanger and left in the bathroom. So, does the steam in the shower help to disentangle ?, explains Claudia.
  12. Finally, be sure to bring a large bag at the bottom of the bag to bring dirty clothes separate from clean clothes.

What to bring in the handbag?

Claudia Moura points out that women who are mothers already know that they need to make that? Basic suitcase? when they go out with the kids. • They should always think about how long the trip takes and thus consider how many meals will be eaten on the way (bottles or baby food); diaper changes; change of clothes (in case of climate change or emergencies) ?, he says.

The personal organizer adds that it is always good for adults to have a coat, painkiller, cell phone charger, a bottle of water, a cookie, personal documents and some (cash) money handy.

For national or international air travel and / or travel with children, attention should be given to documents. ? In addition to IDs, you may need a passport, pass (of course), children's photo ID (ie depending on where you are traveling, birth certificate is not enough, ID card required, even for babies). In addition to permission to travel with the child, if a parent is not together or if you are not the child's mother ?, says Claudia.

The personal organizer points out that some regions of the country and some countries require vaccination for certain diseases. Stay tuned for this and the deadline. Yellow fever, for example, should you take 10 days before the trip ?, concludes.

It is also essential to always check the baggage policies for your flight if you are flying. See airline guidelines as well as international airport directions from where you will depart.

With all these guidelines will be much simpler to pack your suitcase and prepare for a pleasant trip. Remember not to overdo the choice of clothes and shoes to carry, always choosing those that match various looks! Then just follow the step by step quoted by personal organizer Claudia to put everything in the suitcase, making the most of the space it offers. Good trip!
