How to prevent urinary tract infection

Pain and burning urination, increased frequency of going to the bathroom, well-yellowed urine, feeling of discomfort in the belly and, in some cases, blood in the urine are signs that bacteria have reached the urinary tract through the urethra, affecting the bladder.

Half of women suffer from urinary infection symptoms at least once in their lifetime. Anyone who has had it knows how uncomfortable the problem is and so it is always best to avoid.

To prevent urinary infection, the main tip is to drink plenty of fluids. That's because the more often you fill and empty your bladder, it's like washing? the urinary system, decreasing the likelihood of the bacteria settling.

Whenever you feel like peeing, don't hold on. Another important precaution is to go to the bathroom after sex to help eliminate any invasive bacteria from the perineum (region between the anus and vagina) that have tried to approach the urethra.

Avoid wearing jeans or tight-fitting, lycra-like clothing that increases moisture and friction in the intimate area. Give preference to wearing cotton panties and be extra careful with intimate hygiene.

If you have symptoms of urinary tract infection, see a gynecologist. Low urinary tract infection or cystitis is a simple disease, treatment is done with antibiotics and symptoms subside in about two days.

Even so, one must continue taking the antibiotic as prescribed by the doctor. If not treated properly, the case may become complicated and develop into pyelonephritis, or high urinary tract infection, that attacks the kidney.
