Music Therapy for Pregnant Women and Family

In pregnancy several possibilities, care and joy involve the mother and the baby's family. And it is also at this moment that the bonds of affection and love begin to be built. It was with this reasoning that the musician Fernando de Oliveira Pereira decided to study the dynamics of music therapy during pregnancy and created the Baby of the Future Method, Music Therapy for Pregnant Women, Pregnant Families and their babies.

But anyone who thinks this process includes placing CDs with operas or quiet songs for the fetus to hear is totally in the wrong. The musician explains that "the voice is one of the first sounds the baby hears and so we use it to strengthen family ties." According to music therapist, who also studied obstetrics, the fetal hearing aid is almost completely formed by the 21st week of gestation and from there he already experiences some sound sensations.

Among the sounds that reach the baby, which is immersed in the amniotic fluid, are some noises of the pregnant woman's organs, the heartbeat, the mother's footsteps and even the joints of the pregnant woman's skeleton. But the sound that stands out for the baby is that of the human voice. The fetus recognizes not the voice itself, but the timbre, intonation, and frequency it produces. In this case he does not hear words either, but the tune of what is said or sung ?, explains Pereira.

Therefore, in music therapy sessions held at the home of the pregnant family, he suggests that the pregnant woman and family members talk to the baby. “The mother can just talk to him, talk about future plans. Can grandparents tell family stories and can the father hum to the baby? Of course there is no established order of who does what, but it is of paramount importance to strengthen affective ties with the whole family, not just the mother.

And the expert is emphatic about singing. "The fetus especially listens to the singing voice," he explains. Hence the stimulus to hum while waiting for the baby to arrive. The repertoire in this case is at the discretion and taste of the family, but even if it is one? There, there, there? or a melody with a closed mouth will reach the baby's ears.

After the baby is born, all this talk and singing will serve to remind him of the intrauterine sound sensations he experienced. In breastfeeding, for example, the mother may sing a song that the fetus heard a lot while in her womb. It will respond to the stimulus with the sucking rhythm and the suckling time. Just watch the baby? Also introduce at this stage the songs you sang for your baby played electronically and further stimulate him.

The music therapy session with Fernando de Oliveira Pereira also includes an informative talk about the fetal hearing, prenatal communication and massage for babies Shantala (Oriental technique studied and widespread worldwide). The popular saying was: "Who sings, his evils amazes."
