Spray sunscreen is not as effective

An analysis by Proteste (Brazilian Consumer Protection Association) with ten brands of sunscreens for adults with SPF 30 showed that all have a lower protection factor than the packaging.

The results show that most products actually have an average protection factor of 15 or 20. Banana Boat, Carrot and Bronze, Coppertone, Sundown, Solar Australian Gold, L? Oréal spray guards were tested. , O Boticário, Natura, Nivea Sun and Red Apple. The one that came closest to the protection factor 30 was that of Carrot and Bronze, with 22.8, and the lowest was that of Banana Boat, with 13.1.

The Protection Factor indicates the ability of products to filter out UVB-type sunlight, which is considered the most harmful because it can cause sunburn and even skin cancer. The SPF value indicates the amount of exposure to ultraviolet radiation required for skin protected by sunscreen to turn red. Therefore, the higher the value, the longer the protection time.

For this reason, the results of the analysis are worrying. Consumers are taking home a product that does not protect them as it should, and this is especially harmful to light-skinned people who are more sensitive to ultraviolet rays.
