Stork Network: Ensuring the health of pregnant women and babies in SUS

According to the Ministry of Health, pregnant women and children will have better assistance with the new "Stork Network". The project, has process improvements within the Unified Health System (SUS) generating better monitoring in pregnancy and preparation of women and children.

The Network has several phases, from contraceptive methodologies, confirmation of pregnancy, prenatal care, delivery and reaching the first two years of the child's life. The project launched in March 2011, has an investment of $ 9.5 billion from the ministry, invested in improvements initiated by the north and northeast of the country, where the infant mortality rate is higher, especially in the metropolitan areas of these regions.

The Federal Government has pledged to closely monitor the project throughout the country, making sure that it is available to everyone. One of the initiatives is the rapid pregnancy test already available at public health clinics, and with confirmation preparations and prenatal care are already beginning.


The benefit is granted from the registration in the? National System of Registration, Surveillance and Monitoring of Pregnant and Puerpera to prevent Maternal Mortality? available at trained health facilities. The project's conducting group in the Federal District also says:? The Stork Network proposes greater availability of prenatal care, ensuring all necessary examinations, including an ultrasound examination, referral for care if there are any complications during pregnancy. and linking the pregnant woman to the reference maternity for childbirth.

And it is not just female accompaniment that is proposed, parents are encouraged to participate in the program and be by their mother's side. In addition to the benefits, the pregnant woman also has mobility assistance and an auxiliary scholarship of R $ 50.00 paid in two installments during the month, a payment that does not interfere with Bolsa Família.
