How to choose the ideal salon?

Choosing a salon is not the easiest task. Besides the quality and variety of services offered, other factors weigh on this decision, such as friendliness and trust of professionals, flexibility and availability of hours, environment, good service and even the location.

Asking for directions to those who already know the place is a very effective resource, but what if this is not possible? It happens, for example, when you change cities or when a new establishment is opened.

The internet and smartphones have great potential to help resolve this impasse. Salon-focused apps are still in their infancy, initially targeting scheduling, but promise to consolidate as early as next year.

The Easy Room, designed by a Pernambuco startup, is one of them. The app is in the registration phase of institutions and its launch is scheduled for December. Other apps in this line that are also starting to become popular are: Vip Salon, Hairbooking and TemReserva. All are free and have web, Android and iPhone versions.

Meanwhile, the choice has to be made the traditional way: researching. Salon professionals recognized for their quality of care give some tips to help when choosing yours. Check out:

1. A good hairdresser is usually a good listener

If on first contact you already realize that the professional is more concerned with talking about their work than hearing what you want, turn on the yellow light.

"I believe that the careful way to listen, try to understand and meet the woman are differentials to consider when choosing the salon," says hair stylist Wilson Eliodoro, who owns a salon in Sao Paulo. Respect for schedules, quality and responsibility to the customer and the services provided are some factors that differentiate a quality institution.

2. Quality salons invest in training their professionals

If for any professional, updating is important, for those working with Fashion and Beauty this is a fundamental requirement. New trends are emerging all the time on the catwalks, social events and magazines and being on top of them is a big differentiator.

Studio W in São Paulo has its own Training Center that offers weekly courses for all its professionals. "We aim to keep all staff updated on new service techniques, as well as fashion trends, beauty and cultural issues relevant to our activity," explains Rosângela Barchetta, managing partner of the institution.

In the hall led by Celso Kamura, professionals also undergo training and qualification courses in Brazil. Juliana Vieira, Marketing Manager at C. Kamura explains that the idea is to have varied employee profiles to meet diverse customer styles.

3. Safe and pleasant facilities show concern for customer welfare

Stop to think how many hours you spend each month inside the salon. This precious time devoted to your well-being has to be spent at least in a place where you feel good. Thus, this is also an important factor to consider when choosing the institution to which you will entrust your moments of relaxation and personal care.

At Studio W, there is a constant concern for customer comfort. In addition to environment planning based on modern salon technologies, all units are located within malls in the cities of São Paulo, Barueri and Campinas. The idea is to provide greater security, facilitate parking and optimize the time of customers, who can solve different needs in the same place, explains Rosângela.

4. Cleanliness and use of quality products are indispensable for excellent service.

Did you know that beauty salons must also meet specific Health Surveillance standards? A pertinent question when visiting a new salon is whether the establishment has a health license. Check out some of the requirements for obtaining this authorization:

  • Maintain routine cleaning of combs and brushes to each client;
  • Use clean towels, which should be washed with each use;
  • Use only products registered with Anvisa. Homemade formulas are not allowed;
  • Hot single use disposable waxes;
  • Maintain routine sterilization of materials used for manicure and pedicure. They must be individually packed, stating the expiration date of the sterilization;
  • It is forbidden to use formaldehyde in straightening hair;
  • Aesthetic techniques like botox, padding and bioplasty can only be performed by medical professionals.

5Tradition is a good sign of quality and competence.

You know that room that opens and closes all the time in the same place just changing its name? Be alert! A company doesn't work out for some reason and, depending on which one, you won't want to give it a try again. Tradition is not necessarily synonymous with good quality of service, but a well-regarded salon that already has good years of experience often brings greater confidence.
