Study Finds 12 Foods That Have the Most Pesticides

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) for the ninth straight year makes the list of foods with the highest pesticide rate, called Dirty Dozen. The list is part of a company's food pesticide catalog, released every year, and they say 67% of food, even after washing, still contains toxins harmful to humans.

Organic-produced, pesticide-free foods are more expensive and more difficult to produce because planting depends on far more specific conditions and care than foods that receive chemical treatment for pest elimination in agriculture. This is no reason to stop eating fruits and vegetables, but keep an eye on the list, and try to wash food carefully to reduce the amount of chemical pesticide residue as much as possible.

  1. Apple ? 99% of fruits are reported to have at least one type of pesticide.
  2. Strawberries? the second in the world ranking.
  3. Grape ? A single grape has 15 different types of pesticides.
  4. Celery? 13 types of pesticides were found in celery.
  5. Peaches? occupying 5th place this year.
  6. Spinach? being the second vegetable on the list.
  7. Red chili? Stall with the grapes.
  8. Nectarines? All specimens tested showed pesticide traces.
  9. Cucumber? occupies ninth place this year.
  10. Potato ? Compared to other foods, potatoes have a higher weight of pesticides in them.
  11. Cherry tomato ? with 13 types of pesticides found.
  12. Peppers? occupy the last place, which is no less worrying.
