The dark side of food coloring

You may have already gone to a child's birthday and come across a wonderful table with cakes, sweets and cupcakes featuring a variety of lush colors! The dyes in these foods do their job well: they draw people's attention for their beauty and especially appeal to children. However, they can be very bad for your health. Some studies have even shown that some of them are linked to hyperactivity disorders and cancer cases.

• Artificial dyes, when consumed frequently, can damage a person's skin, causing allergies, irritating the stomach lining and causing breathing problems. Can these additives also interfere with the body's metabolic process ?, says nutritionist Sabrina Lopes.

Although artificially colored foods are more attractive to children, their ills also extend to adults. And so they should be avoided by the whole family!

"Artificial dyes can harm both children's and adults' health when consumed in excess," says nutritionist Sabrina. “We consume a lot of dye without realizing it, since it serves to beautify food. Just think of an example: would not eating a transparent strawberry jelly be as attractive as eating a red strawberry jelly ?, explains.

Where are dyes present?

Artificial dyes are not only present on occasional occasions, such as on weekend parties. For if that were so, there would be no problem consuming them with caution at one time or another.

"The dyes are found in most industrialized products, such as candies, candies, cookies, jellies, ice cream, cakes, soft drinks, juices, yogurts, shakes and others," says nutritionist Sabrina.

Danger in disguise

While dye names are meaningless to most people, their negative effects may not go unnoticed (in the long run if products are consumed in excess). It's worth a look and try to escape these substances!

"Some artificial dyes are allowed in Brazil, such as tartrazine yellow and twilight yellow, bright blue and indigotine blue, and bordeaux or amaranth red, erythrosine red, 40 red and ponceau 4R," explains Sabrina. But that does not mean that they can be part of a diet without posing a risk to one's health.

The tip, then, is to keep as natural a diet as possible. In the refrigerator, ice cream and yogurt should make room for fruits and juices extracted from them. In the case of houses with children, we must always remember that children follow their parents' examples, so care with food should be valid for the whole family.
