Weekly House Cleaning Schedule: Organize Your Home Routine

There are those who like it, who can't stand it, who winds up or runs away. Yes, these are housework. A study by professors at Fluminense Federal University found that women spend an average of 26 hours and 20 minutes per week to get their house in order. And with the recent changes in the hiring of domestic workers, the tendency is that these tasks occupy the agenda more and more.

But the lack of time in everyday life need not be synonymous with clutter. On the contrary, with a little planning it is possible to keep the house in order, without killing yourself from hard work, argues personal organizer Adriani Gonçalves of AG Personal Organizer. A lot of people don't like it, but for good organization and home administration the routine is essential. Establishing an order of tasks makes it easier and easier to guide what to do, when and how ?, says Adriani.

Where do I start?

The first step in organizing your house cleaning routine is to make a list of everything you need to do and the time each task requires. Then set up a schedule by distributing tasks by the days of the week and month? and of course put it into practice. This organized house cleaning scheme tends to be much more efficient than cleaning the entire house in a single day.

Establishing routines is critical to getting started. The creation of this type of script, by the way, is one of the principles of the Fly lady method, an American system designed to help clean the house and that has been followed by women around the world.

In preparing this schedule, we must also consider the frequency of each of the activities listed (whether they need to be done daily, weekly or monthly, for example), adds the personal organizer. If necessary, make changes to the script as you see fit, according to the size and needs of your family.

What to do and when?

Do some tasks deserve (or should!) Be performed daily? how to do the dishes and make the bed. But include other less? Desired? (cleaning the toilet, for example) in your daily routine can also help you save time and avoid inconvenience.

Some of these tasks will take less and less time if done regularly. Therefore, they should be part of a daily house cleaning routine. But other tasks can be distributed throughout the week. As a weekly routine, organizational consultant Adriani Gonçalves suggests the schedule below. "Tasks can be rearranged as needed and the script even serves to guide day laborers and maids on what needs to be done," explains Adriani.

Monday

  • Change bedding
  • Changing bathroom washcloths
  • Put the clothes to wash
  • Take out the trash
  • Separate weekly payables

Tuesday

  • Sweep the room and the bathrooms
  • Dusting furniture
  • Clean appliances (including oven and microwave inside)
  • Wash the toilet

  • Change the bath towels
  • Put clothes to wash
  • Take care of indoor plants and / or garden

  • Go to the supermarket

Saturday

  • Sweep the whole house
  • Put clothes to wash
  • Take out the trash

Sunday

  • Set weekly menu
  • Make shopping list
  • Organize the kitchen

If you prefer to change this itinerary, it is important to note that the refrigerator and cabinets are cleaned the day before the day defined to go to the supermarket, advises Adriani. ? Similarly, set up the menu of the week before you go shopping? If you do not have all the products at home, put in the list ?, adds.

It is important to remember that there are other activities not so obvious or commonplace, but which are also indispensable to keep each and every one in order. Therefore, your cleaning schedule should include month, semester, and year tasks as suggested below:

Once a month:

  • Empty and sanitize kitchen cabinets, especially cutlery drawer
  • Empty and wash the grocery jars
  • Wash the spark plugs on your water filter
  • Turn the mattresses off the beds
  • Wash curtains and light rugs
  • Organize clothes closets and drawers
  • Clean switches, chandeliers, walls and ceiling

Every 6 months:

  • Wash the heaviest curtains and rugs
  • Wash or replace air conditioner and exhaust filter
  • Apply petroleum jelly, silicone or beeswax to natural leather furniture
  • Iron wax remover on wood floor
  • Clean and sanitize sink drains and siphons

Once a year:

  • Feather the house
  • Adjust or replace drain valves and taps
  • Clean roof gutters

Clean house, free time

Like every change of habit, it will take some time for you to get used to a house cleaning schedule. "It takes an average of 21 days to get used to any kind of change, especially if it includes routine," says Adriani.

The planning of tasks optimizes the performance of activities, requiring less of your time to keep the house in order and pleasant. With a schedule of what to do, is it easier to delegate tasks as well? If you don't live alone, you shouldn't do everything yourself.

Saving time (and energy!) With housework will give you more time for the activities you really love.
