21 Tips for Decorating Very Small Apartments

Many people today choose to live in small apartments. Many times, because they spend less time at home or simply because of choice: a smaller space requires less expense, less time for cleaning, is usually more easily organized, and so on.

However, it is usually time to move to a small apartment where questions arise such as: Which furniture should I choose? How to make the best use of my living space? How to put everything I need in my room? How to decorate my new apartment accordingly?

But do not worry! With good tips you can make the most of your apartment space, leaving it super organized and functional. Check out the interior designer Malu Goraieb's guidelines below:

Living room

1. Choose modular, flexible and light furniture.

2. Avoid large and heavy furniture.

3. Coffee tables can be upholstered and made of the same fabric as the sofa. "They can be used as footstools," says Malu Goraieb.

4. "The TV can be built into a wall panel, so there is plenty of space if it has a rack to accommodate home theater, DVD and other equipment," explains the interior designer.

5. Secure the TV to the cabinet. Today there is this possibility and it is a very simple and very useful system. So can you have a bigger closet and take up less space with dressers and shelves? Says Malu Goraieb.

6. The headboards can be upholstered or MDF panels.

7. Use sconce instead of lamps on the nightstand. "This leaves more room to accommodate books, clocks and even little decoration pampering," explains the interior designer.

8. Avoid dark colors because they give the feeling that the space is even smaller.

9. Choose light colors on both the floor and ceiling.

10. Use mirrors in front of the wardrobe or headboard, “as they can give a good feeling of spaciousness,” explains Malu.

Kitchen

11. Avoid placing the built-in oven under the cooktop. "He can warm his legs while cooking and baking something at the same time," Malu Goraieb explains.

12. Opt for built-in oven and microwave towers, waist-up.

13. Drawers under the sink are very welcome as they accommodate pans very well and make things noticeably easier to find.

14. But if the kitchen is too narrow, opt for sliding doors and shelves inside.

15. Choose light colors.

16. Appreciate lighting over the sink countertop area.

17. Wall-mounted kitchenware holders are super-practical, “so utensils take up less drawer space,” says the interior designer.

WC

18. Bathrooms require good lighting, mirror over countertop, shelves, glass enclosure, and rubberized floor mats.

19. Avoid dark colors also in the bathroom (s).

20. Avoid slippery tiles.

21. For special needs bathrooms, "use grab bars, avoid floor unevenness and ensure good air circulation at all times," explains Malu Goraieb.

The interior designer concludes by explaining that, before starting to work on the decoration of any room, it is essential to consider how many people will live in the apartment and what are their priorities. All this can be discussed with a professional, who will indicate the best solutions for each case.
