Working all day with your sweetheart may seem like a very attractive idea, but it doesn't always work. This is because couples who spend a lot of time together have a greater chance of finding reasons to get along or, even worse, to get sick of each other faster.
Also, addressing issues as serious as professionals on a daily basis is not always healthy for the relationship. Therefore, following some rules of coexistence is indispensable.
- Be discreet: Personal matters, especially relating to relationships, should be handled away from the workplace.
- Know how to differentiate a case from a serious relationship: if what you two have is just an eventual affair, don't spread it to everyone in the company, keep it between you.
- Be clear: Since what you have is a serious relationship, bosses and co-workers must be aware of your involvement. Hiding is not the best way.
- Avoid gossip: Don't expose your love life to colleagues.
- Know how to separate things: if your boyfriend is your boss or your subordinate, try not to mix professional issues with being together, for example by favoring each other.
- Keep a safe distance: no making out in the workplace.
- Keep the necessary distance: try to separate at least at lunchtime and at breaks. This will be healthy for the relationship.
- Know the rules of the company: Some companies do not allow their employees to relate. If so, reassess the situation? Is it worth keeping your job or relationship?
