How to correctly stimulate the child to walk

There is nothing more rewarding than watching your child take his first steps. According to pediatrician Moises Chencinski, little ones are usually interested in walking between 9 months to 2 years old. But parents need to control anxiety and not stimulate the little ones before the appropriate time, otherwise they may end up physically and psychologically harming the child, making this momentous moment even more difficult. • This stimulus should happen when the child is already orthopedically and muscularly prepared. To stimulate is to give conditions for the child to be able to do what is possible at that moment ?, he says.

Everything at its time

To know the right time, knowing your child exactly and spending every moment together with him is essential. "Parents need to understand their children's needs and talk monthly with the pediatrician to discuss together whether the child is fit to begin his or her first steps," says Chencinski.

After pediatrician analysis, parents should provide adequate environments for the child to feel safe and walk. First and foremost, we must respect each other's development and provide the child with the right environment. To do this, avoid places that have tables with points or objects that may hurt the child ?, says Rogério Vidal, orthopedist. Also avoid places with glass tables or near basins or pools with water.

If he falls?

When they start walking, falls are more frequent than previously thought. Therefore, parents must also learn to deal with them and show even more confidence to the little ones. • Parents should indicate where little ones can support and give psychological stimulation. If it falls and doesn't get hurt, celebrate to show it that everything is fine !? says the pediatrician.

It is also important to note the way the child walks. • Analyzing posture is essential for them to walk naturally. If you notice that something is wrong, tell the pediatrician ?, says Vidal.

Playing can help!

Playing with children allows them to have even more confidence with their parents and also stimulates their development. For this, put on the sofa a toy that he likes a lot. He will try to catch it and consequently give some steps. Another option is for parents to sit on the floor and ask the child to come toward it. "These games bring even more closeness between parents and children and are super stimulating," says Chencinski.

Walkers, never

The Brazilian Society of Pediatrics has started a campaign against walkers. The reason would be the high number of walker accidents. Data indicate that ten out of every thousand emergency calls are caused by him. "The walker, in addition to giving the child false support, can cause serious falls and does not properly encourage the child to walk," says the pediatrician. So the best way to encourage them is to go hand in hand with them and get the little ones to lean on firm places.

Free Feet

Many parents believe that if they wear a sneaker, they will have more comfort when walking. Any kind of footwear is bad for children who are learning to walk. They need to be barefoot to make contact with the ground and develop the reflection. If the floor is too cold, is it ideal to wear non-slip socks ?, says Chencinski.
