How to improve your children's safety on Facebook

Nowadays, all kids and teens want to be on Facebook. And it wouldn't be much different with your son. But social networks, harmless as they may seem, are a gateway to your family's personal information.

Information such as age, school you attend, places you go to, and other personal information can serve as resources for criminals such as pedophiles and kidnappers.

To protect your child from the dangers of Facebook, it's important to take advantage of all the security and privacy tools this social network offers.

Check out the step-by-step how to increase your child's Facebook safety simply and conveniently:

1 ? Profile Info

When editing the profile, you can choose the visibility of each information you enter.

For example, you can customize your Facebook profile so that information such as your child's age appears to friends and the place where he lives and studies only appears to him. So you choose exactly what is public, what is shared with friends, with friends of friends, and what is not shared with anyone.

2 ? Default Privacy

To control the default privacy of your child's account, go to the right corner of the Facebook page and click the little arrow next to the button. Home page and go to Privacy Settings. On the privacy page, change the default setting to only Friends.

3? How to connect

Still on the page of Privacy Settings, click in How to connect and choose the options you want to keep your child safe. Ideally, keep his connections between friends and friends of friends, to prevent strangers from adding or texting him.

4? Tags

Tag analytics must be enabled and check-in in public places should be disabled so that Facebook doesn't disclose where your child is when someone checks in. To customize these options go to Privacy Settings> How Tags Work> Edit Settings.

5? Block

You can block people, app invitations, and event invitations from certain Facebook users. This can be configured in Privacy Settings> Blocked People & Applications> Manage Blocking.

6? Photos

Modify the privacy of each Facebook photo album to suit what you want to protect. At the bottom of each album cover is an icon where you can click and choose who you want to share those photos with. Go to your profile, click Photos> See all: Photos and choose the sharing option you want for each album. This way you protect not only your child's information, but also his or her picture.

By taking these precautions you prevent the wrong people from gaining access to your child's and family's personal information and keep them more protected from the risks that exist on social networks.
