Major skin changes during pregnancy

Some women look beautiful when they are pregnant, others are not so lucky. The fact is that during pregnancy, the woman's skin changes and reveals the changes that occur in the body.

Although these changes are normal and usually disappear spontaneously after delivery, they can be a source of distress for many pregnant women. To dispel the doubts and myths on the subject, know what the main skin changes during pregnancy.

Glowing skin

The glow on the skin that people perceive when a woman is pregnant is not just a way of saying she is prettier and radiant looking. Although often the pregnant woman herself does not realize, this? Brightness of pregnancy? There is an explanation.

The increased volume of blood in the circulatory system makes the face more flushed. All because of the blood vessels that lie just below the surface of the skin. In addition to this flush, there is also an increase in skin oiliness, so the face always seems to glow.

Acne

Acne may recur in pregnancy, but rarely is it as intense as it is in adolescence and tends to subside soon after delivery. To take care of your skin, wash your face thoroughly as soon as you wake up. Then use an astringent lotion to remove dirt residue from the skin and tone the skin.

Moisturize your skin and use a sunscreen to leave the house. Since the skin becomes oilier during pregnancy, it is best to use oil-free or gel versions.

During the day, use handkerchiefs to remove grease from the face, especially in the T-zone. If the skin is very oily, wash your face and reapply the sunscreen.

Before bed, repeat the cleaning done in the morning. Never sleep without removing makeup and avoid exfoliating for nine months, pregnant skin is very sensitive and abrasive particles can cause irritation.

Melasmas

The much higher level of estrogen increases the sensitivity of the skin to sunlight and can cause hyperpigmentation of the face (cheeks, forehead, nose and upper lip), neck and arms. That's where brown spots appear called melasmas or chloasmas.

Since there is no way to predict whether or not a woman will have blemishes during pregnancy, it is best to strengthen prevention and redouble skin care. Pay special attention to the daily application of sunscreen, even on cloudy days.

Stretch marks

With weight gain, the elasticity of the skin reaches its limit and there stretch marks appear. Even though it is natural to gain weight in pregnancy, it is necessary to keep control so as not to put on too much weight. The ideal is to gain from 9 to 12 pounds during the 9 months.

A balanced diet is a good way to prevent stretch marks in pregnancy. Eat foods rich in vitamin C, which stimulates collagen and protein production. Vitamin A, E, fruits and vegetables are also on the list of recommended foods. Avoid fried foods, excess salt and sweets.

Another tip is to wear underwear that will ensure your comfort and protect your skin. As the breasts get bigger and heavier, opt for the reinforced, wide-strapped bra models that provide greater support. The panties should be of models made especially for pregnant women, with high waist and that give greater resistance to the skin of the abdomen.

Linea nigra

In addition to melasmas on the face, neck and arms, it is normal during pregnancy to have a well-marked line that extends from the navel towards the pubic region. In fact, this line had been there before and only became evident due to the hormonal changes of pregnancy.

And there's no reason to worry, the so-called linea nigra disappears within a few months after the birth of the baby.
