The number of women in the CEO position in Brazil has grown considerably in the last year, according to the International Business Report 2013 (IBR). The data show that in 2013, 14% of women in leadership positions are CEOs, 300% higher than last year, when only 3% held that position.

The numbers in world parameters are also encouraging. 14% of women in the world are CEOs today, 5% more than last year. The survey was conducted with 12,500 companies in 44 economies. In Brazil, 300 companies were surveyed.

In practice it is still a dilemma for women to assume leadership positions in view of their multitasking profile. However, women are chasing and seeking to improve more and better to get better placements within companies. ?, says Ana Claudia Oliveira, partner of Grant Thornton Brazil.

Among those at the top of the country, most occupy positions in Human Resources (32%) and as Sales Director and Chief Finance Officer (CFO) (both with 27%). The survey also found that only 13% of women occupy positions on the board of Brazilian companies. Still, 57% support the introduction of quotas in large companies open to women to participate in boards.

Globally, the health sector has the highest percentage of women in leadership positions (45%), followed by education and social services (44%) and hospitality (41%). The construction and real estate and mining segments have the least leading women (both with 19%).
