Do stretch marks have a solution?

The skin is an elastic fabric, when we stretch it it usually returns to its original shape. This is due to the existence of elastic fibers in its structure. However, like all elastic, if too stretched can tear, losing the ability to return to its original shape.

At stretch marks They are scars formed by the rupture of the elastic fibers of the skin. They usually appear after a large or rapid stretch of the skin (pregnancy, weight gain, rapid growth, etc.). Interestingly, sometimes they appear only after weight loss. Like an old elastic in a sweatshirt, we can see that it is frayed mainly when we are not wearing the pants when it is not stretched.

Stretch marks are then proof that the skin has a compromised structure and will always have a certain degree of sagging. Unfortunately, like every scar, there is no way to eliminate it. We can only improve your appearance.

At reddish stretch marksYoung people, still in the early stages of healing, are more easily treated. This is due to the ongoing healing activity of the skin, when we can better stimulate collagen production and healing activity, with greater retraction of the stria.

At whitish stretch marksmature, are more difficult to treat, since healing activity, collagen deposition and increased circulatory activity have ceased.

Some of the treatments applied directly to the striae aim to increase the healing activity, making greater collagen deposition, increased circulatory flow and, therefore, greater retraction of the striae, with consequent thinning of the same. Carboxitherapy, mesotherapy, use of lasers are examples.

Other treatments applied to the entire skin (not just the stretch marks), such as dermabrasion and acidic superficial peels, aim to mask the stretch marks making them less visible due to the whitening of the entire skin.

So the best thing to do is avoid stretch marks, always moisturizing the skin well and avoiding large stretches or abrupt stretches. Controlling weight, especially during pregnancy, is crucial, because in nine months there will certainly be a great distension of the skin and an unnecessary additional increase will be compromising.

Remember that weight gain greater than 10 kg in a pregnancy is totally unnecessary, is fat, does not help in the formation of the child. It is pure prejudice. Once formed, the stretch marks, we can only minimize the damage, but it will be permanent.
