Arthritis and Arthrosis

Joint pain, swelling and loss of movement are some of the symptoms of arthritis and arthrosis, diseases that affect joints and impair the quality of life for many people. And it is wrong to think that these two villains appear only in old age. Anyone is prone to inflammation and joint wear, even the youngest. Those who constantly undergo intense or traumatic efforts are at greater risk.

Arthritis

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints caused by the wear and tear of the joints. It is caused by hereditary factors, age, overweight, trauma and injury or even physical inactivity. It can be classified in different ways depending on how it manifests itself.

One is rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disease, which arises because the immune system attacks its own tissues rather than protecting the body.

The main symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis are swelling and stiffness, especially in the morning, as well as severe pain. This type of arthritis affects three times more women than men.

There is also gouty arthritis, popularly called gout. It occurs due to the accumulation of mineral urate microcrystals in the joints of the toes, insteps, knees and elbows, which causes pain and limited movement. Arthritis treatment is done with medication and in some cases requires surgery. Symptoms can also be controlled with physical therapy and regular exercise.

Arthrosis

Arthrosis is a chronic disease that mainly affects the spine, hips, hands, fingers, knees and ankles. Also called osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis, it is caused by cartilage wear or trauma and joint fractures.

The diagnosis is made by radiographs and the main symptoms of arthrosis are pain when moving, lack of firmness, swelling and stiffness of the site. The use of medications combined with physical therapy, stretching and bodybuilding exercises can relieve pain.

How to Live With Arthritis and Arthrosis

The practice of physical exercises can be a great ally to ease the discomfort caused by these diseases. In the case of arthritis, moving the body helps relieve pain, while for arthrosis, the effect is even more important, being able to even prevent its onset.

But remember that before starting any activity, it is essential to consult your doctor and make an assessment to know which exercises are most appropriate. This way you prevent injuries and your body only has to gain.

Another good alternative to aid treatment is nutrition, which also serves to prevent arthritis and arthrosis. Some foods have components that, if consumed for a long time, prevent the onset of such diseases.

Among the recommended nutrients for people with arthritis and arthrosis are omega-3, which in the body becomes an anti-inflammatory product and can be found in soy, canola oil and fresh fish.

Vitamins E and C (ascorbic acid) also make the list. Vitamin E can be found in nuts, sunflower seed, wheat germ, whole grains, fish, goat's milk, kiwi and leafy green vegetables. Citrus fruits, such as orange, lemon and tangerine, are good sources of vitamin C, in addition to raspberry and strawberry.
