Know the damage that high heels can do to your feet

It's amazing the feeling of beauty and power that a high heels provides for women. But what is not at all incredible is the pain this shoe can cause after a day or an entire night of use.

In addition to the discomfort, the excess of high heels can cause problems to the spine, knees and especially to the feet. For this reason, care must be taken when using them, as with pain and health problems, it will not be possible to use this piece so glamorous and important for the look again. The variety of models makes the choosing the best shoe harder. But in addition to thinking about beauty, you need to be aware of health.

Ideal for everyday use is a 3 to 4-inch high jump with a wider club (physical part of the jump, which determines your model). However, only those who are women know that in practice this is not possible.

Women's darling also poses the most health risks, according to occupational therapist Julia Fonseca: high heelsThe woman concentrates all the weight of her body on the front of the feet, thus has to walk with the knees bent to balance, which causes pain and discomfort.

No need to stop using the needle model. An alternative is to have different options for every day of the week, including having a shoe with low jumpwhich is the most recommended. The aesthetic result may not be 100% satisfactory for all women, but the improvement in quality of life will certainly be.

Doctor Julia suggests that anyone who bets on the Anabela model (which is like a platform) gets it right. As the platform runs the full length of the sole, it can better distribute the weight. Other good alternatives are thick heels because they also provide support to the body without stressing the calf, for example.

Jumping abuse can cause at least 5 different types of foot injuries. Do not believe? Check out:

  • Bunion: In addition to genetic factors, over-use of tight shoes at the front, such as thin-toed shoes, can cause a deformity just below the first toe, which is called a bunion. This problem results in pain, inflammation and infections;
  • Fingers? Hammer ?: Wearing small, tight, high-heeled shoes can develop the so-called hammer toe, which happens when the toe takes the form of a claw. This problem is caused by the development of calluses on the upper toes and a callus formation on the soles of the toes. Imagine walking like this? Those who already have bunions are at even greater risk of developing the hammer finger;
  • Morton's Neuroma: The lack of blood circulation caused by tight, narrow or high shoes compresses the plantar nerves and causes inflammation. This is an injury that affects the entire foot, but especially the third and fourth toes. Morton's neuroma causes pain and numbness that can be relieved by removing the shoe;
  • Achilles tendon inflation: The habit of continuously wearing high heels can cause changes in Achilles tendon tension, which causes pain and, consequently, tendonitis. Some people may even break the tendon, which is responsible for connecting the leg to the calf;
  • Turning instability: The recommendation is that the heel should be between 3 and 4 centimeters because those who walk above this height run the frequent risk of having sprains and microtraumas, which cause recurrent pain on the outside (lateral) side of the ankle.

When you are in heel, remove it for a few moments and stretch your thigh and calf muscles with the movements that your leg would naturally make if it were not under your high shoes.
