Man walks with plaque? Need kidney for wife? and find donor

Larry Swilling, 78, from South Carolina, made an unusual request to people passing by: he walked around the neighborhoods with a sign asking someone to donate a kidney to his sick wife. And found a donor.

Larry's wife Jimmie Sue Swilling, 76, discovered when trying to conceive that she was born with only one kidney, but despite the doctors' doubts about the success of her pregnancy, Jimmie Sue gave birth to three children. But the possibility of needing a future transplant continued to haunt him.

In September 2012, doctors confirmed Jimmie's fears: She was close to kidney failure, and would need an urgent transplant. She was put on a long waiting list, and hopes for survival became less and less. So her husband decided to ask a donor on the streets, writing the request on a sign so that strangers could see.

To the couple's surprise, her husband received thousands of calls from interested donors. Larry never imagined that a plate order could be so successful. The donor has been referred to the hospital and Jimmie Sue is already waiting to receive his new kidney soon.
