Maria Paula Del Nero, dermatologist and member of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, explains that there is an amino acid chain called peptide. "It can have two amino acids (dipeptides), three amino acids (tripeptides), four amino acids (tetrapeptides) or many amino acids (polypeptides)," he says.
And polypeptides are widely used in the cosmetic industry in anti-aging products, according to dermatologist Maria Paula. "With regard to wrinkles, they are very effective because they act by increasing collagen production and forming a moisture barrier in the skin," he says.

The dermatologist also explains that polypeptides are also called hydrolysed proteins, which have, in the cosmetic area, the general and basic function of forming a hydroscopic film on the skin or hair. "This film reduces water evaporation, contributing to increased hydration," he adds.
Also according to the dermatologist, in the natural composition of the skin, various types of amino acids are present in NMF, the English Natural Mosturizing Factor, a kind of protection that the body produces. "To intensify this protection, cosmetic products seek substances similar to those found in the skin, so amino acids have great penetration in this industry," he explains.
The same can be said of hair, which has keratin as the main natural protein, making up 80% of hair. In addition to keratin, other types of peptides are commonly used in hair care products, such as collagen, silk, milk and wheat peptide binding ?, adds dermatologist Maria Paula.
