Simple trick to keep French bread fresh longer

No one can resist a freshly baked French bread with a delicious butter that melts only with the heat of the crumb just baked a few minutes ago.

But this whole delight is short-lived: A few hours after you bring your French bread from the bakery, it will be a little withered. The other day, then, it is certain that your roll will be hard, very different from when you bought it.

Simply throwing away these old-fashioned breads is not a solution, as wasting food is never a good idea. So how about learning to keep French bread longer, saving your trips to the bakery?


In this article, we bring two ways to store your roll, one with freezing and one without. Choose your preferred method and ensure fresh bread whenever you want.

Icing the french bread

If you have bought more French bread than you will eat, the best option for preserving them is by freezing, as youtuber Flávia Ferrari explains.

The faster you put the bread in the freezer, the better the result. So there's no point waiting for the bread to get hard before you decide to freeze it in the hope that it will get good again, because it won't happen.

Eat your roll and if you decide that others will stay for later, take the time to follow the step by step and keep them cool longer.

1. Pack the bread in freezer bags, always separating into small portions that you can eat at once;

2. Get as much air as possible out of the bag and tie tightly;

3. Store in the freezer for up to three months, removing only what you consume;

4. To defrost, the first step is to moisten the bread rind with a little water;

5. Then put it in the oven over low heat for 10 to 15 minutes and you're done!

Without freezing

If the plan is to store French bread overnight only, you can let it cool completely and then store it in a zip plastic bag or a plastic container with a lid.


Leave the breads in a cool, moisture-free place and they can be stored for up to three days.

Before serving, rub a little water over the outer layer of bread and bake over medium heat for 5 minutes so that it is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Another tip for your rolls to last longer is to keep the bakery bag open while they are warm, preventing the steam from making them lose their crispness.
