Techniques for Buttock Augmentation: Which to Choose?

The theme ?glute enlargement? has been gaining more and more space in our office and in the media. Despite being a national preference, the shapely butt until today it was not included in the most sought after surgeries among the plastics.

Today, with greater safety, faster recovery and better results, such procedures have been much sought after and performed on a geometric scale. But there is always the doubt: Which is better, prosthesis, bioplasty or liposculpture?

Liposculpture

THE liposculpture It is a liposuction where part of the aspirated fat is used as a graft to enlarge or fill another area, commonly the gluteus.

Liposuction, by removing the fat from the sides above the butt, already evidences the gluteal region by itself. Added to the fat graft, this projection is more evident.

Being part of the body itself, fat does not generate any reaction, rejection, allergy. It is very safe. However, it resorbs around 40% of the grafted volume and may vary between patients.

Bioplasty

THE bioplasty consists of the application of a biocompatible material, PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). With gel consistency, PMMA is injected into the muscle and fat of the gluteal region, providing an increase corresponding to its injected volume.

As for the result, it is similar to fat grafting, but not about the absorption that fat over, maintaining the result over time. Its disadvantages are the impossibility of removing the product, which gets infiltrated in the body tissues. Although rare, there may be some reaction to the product, such as allergy, bloating, bloating, etc.

Bioplasty is performed by injection, which may be sedation or local anesthesia. The result is immediate and the return to activities after a few days. The pain is mild and the frequency of complications proportional to the injected volume.

Prosthesis

THE glute prosthesis It is placed through surgery with epidural or general anesthesia, recovery time of at least 14 days and greater discomfort with pain. The disadvantages stop there.

The result is more effective in projection and increased consistency. Allows removal of the prosthesis if necessary. Complications are rare and the results are natural. The patient will no longer be able to inject her glute.

After all, what is the best option?

In view of these points, I believe that for larger increases, better glute contour and consistency gain, the prosthesis should be chosen. For smaller increases without consistency (PMMA is a gel, with fat-like consistency), bioplasty can be used at moderate volumes. For patients with flank fat (lateral abdomen), liposculpture is a good option, whether or not associated with the gluteus prosthesis.

It is always important to note that the outcome of the procedure is directly related to choosing the correct procedure and performing it safely. To do so, always look for a specialist, ie make sure that your doctor is a member of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery.
