10 tips for happiness according to science

Every day you make choices and make small decisions, and some of them seem completely oblivious to your health and happiness. But much of what you decide during your day to day life can dramatically impact the way you feel mentally and physically. If you have already noticed that some of these choices have complicated your life, watch out for these 10 tips for happier and healthier by changing some habits:

  1. Have deeper connections
Human experience is based on connecting with other people, after all, it gives value and meaning to our lives. Research shows that people with strong social ties are healthier and have a lower risk of death. In addition, they have a higher life expectancy and less risk of cancer. This goes for marriage, family and friends. Do not be afraid to surrender. Ties and connection are essential for a healthy and happy life.
  2. Don't sit around all day
Sitting in front of a TV or computer screen increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and death, even if you exercise! The survey was conducted with 240,000 participants, who had the habit of sitting daily for many hours, and another portion that did not have the same custom.
  3. Stop to breathe

Breathing is like food for body and mind. Try to take at least 15 minutes of your day to sit and breathe. Meditation coupled with right breathing reduces anxiety, improves your quality of life, boosts the immune system and, in turn, regulates your sleep. Want a better reason to take a break from your day?

  4. Become a member of any community
Look for a religion, doctrine, or even group where you can interact and exchange ideas with others. This practice can help you reduce stress and worry and can be a great window to new friendships.
  5. Don't ignore your creative skills.
Expressing yourself creatively reduces the risk of illness, and strengthens your health and well-being. A study from Harvard School of Public Health found that art, for example, helps reduce stress and anxiety, increases positive emotions, and reduces the likelihood of depression, among many other benefits. Another study, which was published in the Journal of Medicine Biobehavioral, found that creative writing improved the immune system response of patients with HIV.
  6. Don't spend all day indoors
Explore the world around you? even if it means traveling somewhere nice, or just hiking in your neighborhood. This will offer you a wide range of advantages for your body and mind. For starters, the benefits of sunlight will outweigh the negative effects of artificial light that we are used to. In addition, researchers have found that group excursion trips are true therapies, as they promote weight loss and increase mood, confidence and self-esteem. Live more outdoors!
  7. Consume less and create more

Contribution is essential to a full and happy life. We often spend our lives consuming the world around us instead of creating it. We live a sedentary life and we eat passively, which does not allow us to create anything, only to absorb what has already been done. So prepare your own meal instead of eating out or buying it ready. Try learning how to make your own clothes, or if this is too difficult, make some simpler object. This will stimulate your creativity, reduce stress and break down, you will spend less money.

  8. Work with what you like
Overworking can be potentially dangerous. In Japan, people who die of psychological problems from work even have a label: "karoshi", which literally means "death from overwork." Factors such as unpredictable shifts, tension, disagreement with your boss or co-workers and feeling undervalued are harmful to your health. Overtime also contributes to the problem: the performer is more likely to have coronary heart disease.
  9. Don't eat alone
According to Brian Wansink, Cornell professor and author of the book Mindless Eating, when people eat alone, they are more likely to have binge eating. In addition, diets also change as people tend to eat fewer fruits and less healthy meals. It seems that people try harder to eat well when they are alone.
  10. Believe that you are worthy of health, happiness and love.
When you want to start a project, the first step to achieving it is to make sure you deserve to fly high. Don't let your fear, insecurity, or even shame keep you from trying new or bold things, according to your judgment. When you strive and pursue courageous goals believing you deserve them (and will achieve them), you may be surprised at the results.
