5 homemade dry shampoos for you to test and take to life

Some days, the rush is so much that it is impossible to take care of hair as it deserves. And even when your hair is not clean and flawless, there is sometimes an invitation to an undeniable event. What to do?

It is for these occasions that there is the dry, cosmetic shampoo that has gained more and more space in the Brazilian market. It leaves the hair as freshly washed, gives texture and a strategic volume when applied for this purpose.

The problem is that traditional dry shampoo is expensive, and there are few options for people who adopt hair care practices such as low-poo and no-poo.

To circumvent this situation, one strategy is to use homemade dry shampoos, which have a very similar effect to traditional shampoos for a much lower price, yet are completely released for low-poo and no-poo.

Following are some recipes to make at home and enjoy the benefits of a dry shampoo. In all of them, it is recommended to use a salt shaker pot or other similar pot to store the product and be able to apply it more easily. Also, with the exception of the spray dry shampoo recipe, you will find that in all recipes raw rice can be added to counteract the moisture in the mix and make your dry shampoo looser.

1. Basic Dry Corn Starch Shampoo

This basic recipe is suitable for all hair types, just add the ingredients according to the hair color. Cornstarch is one of the most commonly used ingredients in dry shampoos, and appears in virtually every recipe, with changes only to the ingredients that are mixed with it. This is because it is great for absorbing grease and, being a very fine powder, is easy to spread and remove from hair after use.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • unsweetened cocoa powder (optional)
  • cinnamon powder (optional)
  • 6 to 10 drops of essential oil of your choice (optional)

Preparation and application

Mix cornstarch and baking powder. If your hair is brown or black, add up to 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, depending on the tone of your hair (the darker the more cocoa powder). If your hair is red, replace cocoa powder with cinnamon powder. Mix the essential oil to scent your hair (but do not add the oil if your hair is too oily) and sift the mixture twice to make the powder very fine and loose.

Place in a container that facilitates application, such as a salt shaker. Add a few grains of uncooked rice to keep the mixture loose and to avoid moisture.

Ready! Your dry shampoo is ready for use! Apply it at the root to the length where the oiliness has reached. Rub until dry shampoo is no longer visible on the strands and comb or style your hair normally.

2. Dry Talcum Shampoo

Dry shampoo can also be made with baby powder, preferably baby powder. Talcum powder is also very absorbent and has the advantage of already having perfume, which removes the need to add an essential oil. If your hair is oily but you don't give up perfume, this recipe is best for you.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon scented talcum powder

Preparation and application

As in the previous recipe, the secret is to mix the ingredients and sift well to make a fine loose powder. You can also add cocoa or cinnamon to bring the color of the shampoo closer to the color of your hair, but because cocoa and cinnamon have distinctive smells, you can change the final smell of the shampoo by affecting the talcum scent.

The application is exactly like the previous shampoo. The only caution you should take here is that if you do not put cocoa or cinnamon, you will need to pay more attention when spreading the product so that your hair does not look whitish.

3. Dry Baking Shampoo

Baking soda is a great product for all types of cleaners. In fact, some use it instead of traditional shampoo to clean the scalp and the hair. However, it is important to know that it also takes the chemistry out of hair. So, if you have dye, straightening or other chemical process, this recipe is not very suitable for you. But if your hair is natural and especially if it is oily, it can be played that baking will help a lot!

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp baking soda

Preparation and application

Mix both ingredients, sift well and place in a container with some grains of raw rice. Because this recipe is fragrance-free, it can easily be mixed with cocoa or cinnamon to give the color of the product.

Apply to the hair root and rub until you can no longer see the powder.

4. Dry Clay Shampoo

Clay is another very absorbent substance, used in various products and masks to combat oiliness.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp bentonite white clay
  • 2 tablespoons ground arrowroot or cornstarch
  • 5 to 10 drops of essential oil of your choice (optional)
  • 1 dark bottle to store the mixture

Preparation and application

Mix the clay, arrowroot (or starch) and the essential oil. You can add cocoa or cinnamon to make the product color match your hair color. Sift twice and store the mixture in a dark jar with some grains of uncooked rice. It is important to put in a dark jar so that the clay retains its properties, but if you do not find a dark jar, at least store the jar in a dark place or wrapped in paper or cloth.

The application is done as in the previous recipes: it is applied on the scalp to the length to which the oil has fallen. Then rub and spread the product until it is no longer visible.

5. Dry Shampoo Spray Version

Dry spray shampoo is an alternative for those who cannot adapt to dry shampoo and always leave a little dust on their hair. Isn't he completely dry? since it's spray? but dries very fast and gives the same effect as dry powder shampoos.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch (blond), unsweetened cocoa powder (brunettes) or cinnamon powder (redheads)
  • Half a glass of water
  • 2 tablespoons alcohol or half a glass of vodka (alcohol for very oily hair, vodka for less oily hair)
  • 6 to 10 drops of essential oil of your choice (optional)

Preparation and application

Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle and shake well. If your hair is too oily, do not add the essential oils or add a smaller amount. It is also possible to exchange vodka for ordinary alcohol, but it can dry out your hair a little.
