Child with rare condition never stops smiling

Ollie Petherick, two years old, born with Angelman syndrome? a chromosomal disorder that causes severe learning disabilities? and leaves a permanent smile on your face. This syndrome always causes carriers to behave happily and happily.

Often Ollie's mother often gets compliments from strangers for the boy's constant smile. People often get excited just seeing Ollie's beaming smile, according to his mother, Campbell. "He has always been a very relaxed and quiet baby," he points out.

Campbell, who cares for her son full time, only discovered Ollie's condition when she realized that he couldn't concentrate on his activities. Ollie was six months old when I began to realize that his development was very slow? his older brother was much more advanced when he was his age. So one night, I spent hours trying to convince him to follow my finger with his eyes, and he just couldn't?


“I really started to worry, so the next morning I went to the family doctor. We were referred to the hospital, where he had eye exams, and it turned out that Ollie was suffering from something neurological, but we didn't know exactly what. The mother was then transferred to a second hospital, where her boy underwent further examinations.

Reading a magazine, Campbell read about Angelman's syndrome, and saw that the symptoms fit the child's problem exactly. Soon the doctors confirmed their suspicions.

Parents seek comfort and information from a support group for those who have children with the problem. Unfortunately, the condition means that the boy cannot talk or walk like other children without the syndrome. It is also difficult to know when the person is upset as they are always smiling.
