Clenbuterol used for weight loss poses risks, understand

In the search for fast results, some people end up resorting to some medications that can help you lose weight. This is the case of anyone who has been betting on Clenbuterol (or Clenbuterol) which, while not having this goal, is a drug that can induce weight loss.

Rafaella Câmara, nutritionist at AzimuteMed (a healthcare company that provides patient-oriented services and develops customized programs for the pharmaceutical industry, health insurance companies, companies and brokers), explains that Clenbuterol is a drug intended for the treatment of respiratory impairment. , used as a decongestant and broncho dilator. "Patients with chronic diseases, such as asthma, use this substance to open the blocked airways, thus facilitating breathing," he says.

The nutritionist also points out that it is also known as Vitapulmin or Pulmonil, for veterinary use, used to treat respiratory disorders in animals.

Cristiano Rabelo Nogueira, pulmonologist recognized by the Brazilian Society of Pulmonology and Tisiology (SBPT), PhD from the Federal University of the State of São Paulo (Unifesp) and managing director of Pulmonare Clinic, points out that Clenbuterol is a prescribed beta-two adrenergic agonist. It is usually for the treatment of asthma and its main effects are decongestant action and bronchodilator.

The substance acts almost specifically on beta-2 adrenergic receptors, causing bronchiolar relaxation, increased respiratory epithelium motility, increased respiratory tract fluid secretion, mast cell stabilization, histamine release inhibition, vascular dilation, increased adrenergic neurotransmitters and myocardial activation ?, adds the pulmonologist.

In Brazil, explains Nogueira, Clenbuterol is only available for veterinary use. But still, some people have been using this drug with the goal of losing weight.

Does Clenbuterol Weight Loss?

Nogueira explains that Clenbuterol is also considered an anorectic drug (ie able to induce weight loss). Its thermogenic effect increases blood pressure through cardiac muscle and body temperature due to excess secretion of norepinephrine and other catabolic hormones from the adrenal region. So is there a large daily calorie expenditure and hence a slimming effect? already found in animal studies ?, he says.

Thus, adds the pulmonologist, some people make use of this drug in humans in order to achieve results similar to those obtained in the veterinary environment. However, we should not use this medicine on individuals with the goal of losing weight. Besides the various collaterals, can it lead to death ?, he says.

Rafaella points out that Clenbuterol (Clenbuterol) has potent and lasting effects as a stimulant and thermogenic, which can increase aerobic capacity, stimulate the central nervous system and increase blood pressure and oxygen transport, increasing the rate of fats and proteins that are used by the body, while decreasing glycogen stores ?, says. For all these characteristics is this medicine used? improperly? to aid in rapid weight loss ?, highlights.

Rafaella explains that the drug is usually found in gel or tablet form, at a concentration of 20mcg / ml. The usual dosage is between about 40-120 mg / day, it is usually used increasingly for fifteen (15) days and then a rest of another 15 days. This is done so that you can have control of side effects. For women the dosage between 40-80mcg / day, but the side effects are the same ?, highlights.

Clenbuterol Contraindications

Nogueira emphasizes that the use of Clenbuterol should be avoided in humans, especially in individuals with cardiovascular problems, such as acute myocardial infarction and stroke, patients with hypertension, arrhythmias and people with allergic sensitivity to this substance.

Rafaella points out that patients with any cardiovascular risk should avoid the use of this substance. The most common symptoms are: tachycardia, intense sweating and diuresis, increased blood pressure, headaches, trembling and a desire to vomit, and increased heart rate. The chronic problems, which can be aggravated by the continuous use of Clenbuterol, are: hypertension, urinary dysfunction, sudden loss of electrolytes and dehydration ?, he says.

The nutritionist recalls that, in Brazil, is a medicine of exclusively veterinary origin (Vitapulmin / Pulmonil), and can be found in veterinary or agricultural stores, costing on average 80 to 150 reais, depending on the region of the country.

Although it can be found for sale, it is worth remembering: Clenbuterol is a medicine intended for people or animals with problems in the respiratory system and should only be used if prescribed. The use as a weight loss is totally rejected by health professionals. If in doubt, consult your doctor for more information about the medicine.

For both Clenbuterol and other drugs that may have a slimming effect, the guideline is the same: no one should give up health for vanity and no medicine can be taken without medical authorization and guidance.
