Meet Freekeh, the new diet ally

Non-Diet Women: Meet Freekeh, the still-green grain of wheat, which is the last ally of women who want to lose weight. The food that is already an old acquaintance of the Arabs, has every 100 grams, 16 grams of fiber. This figure is far above other grains, such as rice, which has only 4 grams of fiber.

Classified in the supergran group, it aids in the formation of good bacteria, regulates and prevents bowel disease, and aids in the control of diabetes. But its most sought after effect is the feeling of satiety it has, thus diminishing the desire to eat, which contributes to weight loss. To consume, the freekeh grains should be boiled for about 20 minutes until cooked, and then can be mixed in various dishes such as salads and soups.

However, as it comes from wheat, the grain contains gluten. So is the warning for those who can not consume food containing the substance.

Freekeh: The New Quinoa

Freekek has been considered the new quinoa by many people, such as businesswoman and chef Carla Pernambuco. In her blog, Carla comments that freekeh is as nutritious and versatile as quinoa. But with a much more attractive price.

Although not yet easily found on the shelves, its popularity is increasing and the trend is for the product to gain prominence in health food stores and break into supermarket shelves.
