Risks of Crazy Diets

Straight hair, flawless skin and of course, a slim body. These are one of the dreams and goals of Brazilian women and adolescents. The pursuit of perfect aesthetics is encouraged by the great success achieved by national and international models who diet to maintain the ideal weight.

But how healthy is a lean body? Nutritionist Michelle de Souza explains what are the risks of crazy diets. According to her, being without food for long hours can cause incalculable damage to the body. "Unfortunately society creates this stereotype that to be beautiful, you have to be thin, which leads to serious health risks," he comments.

Consuming drugs not prescribed by the doctor to reduce certain pounds in a few weeks may lead to future loss of organ functioning. "The drugs can cause intestinal malabsorption, headaches, vomiting, which in the long run affects the kidneys, circulation and even the heart itself," says the nutritionist.

What is very common to see in social networks are diets that promise to reduce ten pounds in just one week, for example.

Although it appears to be so efficient, the results can lead to several losses. Sticking to these unfounded diets is a very serious risk. This is because the lack of a balanced diet leads to long-term problems, explains Michelle.

Skipping meals is also totally recriminated. The ideal is to have five meals a day, ie breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffee, dinner and evening tea. Eating fruits during these intervals is recommended? Explains the nutritionist.

But unlike what you think, snacking on crackers or toast before meals is unhealthy. "The famous nibbles we call empty calories, meaning you are consuming calories, but these foods do not enrich your diet except fatten," says Michelle.

Therefore, for those who want to lose weight healthily, it is recommended to consult the doctor to indicate the best treatment option. "I always help my patients to seek nutritionist advice, after all, before we give a diet, we do blood tests to see what is the patient's health situation, then start a diet," explains Michelle de Souza.

Besides, of course, to exercise regularly. "The practice of physical activities is very important for those who want to lose weight healthily, after all, the body needs balance to stay balanced," suggests the nutritionist.
