Dating between employees of the same company

We spend so much time in the workplace that it is common to find people there that we care about. However, assuming a relationship in the professional environment It can be somewhat dangerous for your career. Coach Susana Azevedo explains that often the concern of companies is that employees confuse personal life with professional life.

For coach Edson De Paula, some companies have already changed their policies and allow dating between your employees. "This attitude usually aims to increase the personal and professional quality of life of employees," he explains. But he warns that before signing a affective relationship within the professional environment, the employee knows the rules established by the company in this case.

• If the relationship happens at first, try to be discreet and consider whether it will be promising or just passing. This way there is no need to expose yourself within the workplace ?, advises De Paula. But if the couple realizes that the relationship is serious and is within the behaviors allowed by the company, the ideal is that there is transparency and that the leadership is informed. "There is no way to live with quality restraining their own feelings," warns De Paula.

In the event that the corporation maintains strict rules regarding the affective relationship between its employees, it is ideal that one makes the decision to leave the company. "The best way to prevent both of them being fired at once is for one partner to take action first and resign," warns Susana. De Paula explains that there are no specific laws for these cases, so the proper attitude is usually dictated internally by the company, through a code of behavior and ethics.

Professional love

Michelle Ocimara Fagundes, 24, and Bruno Leonardo de Jesus, 31, met 3 years ago at the news monitoring company they worked for. After becoming friends and going to the movies, the weather warmed and they started dating. But it took some time to finally take over the relationship in the company because they were afraid of the reaction of the boss. "Only after three months of dating, when a corporate colleague was married, did we decide it was time for everyone to know about our relationship," Michelle says.

The two worked in different industries, but made it clear to the company directors that there would be no interference with their personal income from dating. “It wasn't easy, but I can say it was a great experience. I believe the professional profile and maturity were essential for success ?, explains the young woman.

Edson De Paula explains that it is important for the couple to demonstrate that their relationship does not disturb the professional environment and gives some valuable tips. "Treat all colleagues the same way they were treated before the relationship and know how to share very well what is their real role in the workplace," he explains. Another behavior that should be avoided is the jealous bouts, gossip and intrigue of the couple within the corporate environment. “Avoid excesses like desk visits, sending personal emails or phone calls at work,” the coach concludes.
