How to choose the color of the baby room

Pregnancy is a magical moment in the life of a woman who, together with other family members, looks forward to the birth of a new family member! Is it also a hectic period of preparation, decisions and even some indecision? After all, future dads need to get everything ready for the baby's arrival!

Exactly for this reason, it is common that doubts arise, ranging from choosing the name of the child, to buying the trousseau, to choosing the color of the baby's room!

This last question, by the way, is quite important, since? although some people are unaware or not of value to it? each color has a meaning and says a lot about the mother's personality and her wishes for the baby.

Below, Aline Mendes, architect and Feng Shui Master, explains what is important to consider when choosing the color of the baby's room, as well as the meanings of the main colors in Feng Shui analysis.

The importance of colors

According to Aline Mendes, colors are vibratory frequencies, and different wavelengths are captured by our eyes in different ways. "This way, each color will have a different influence on our body and our emotions according to their frequency," he says.

Still according to the professional, stronger colors have a more intense influence, while softer pastel colors have a more subtle influence. Babies are very sensitive to everything going on in the environment, and bright colors can be an excessive stimulus to their still developing neurological system. Therefore, it is best to give preference to soft colors in the nursery. Of course we can have colorful objects decorating the room, but the walls, curtains and bedspreads must have light colors ?, highlights Aline.

According to Feng Shui, we must follow nature's harmony of tones, making the floor a darker shade than the walls, and the ceiling lighter than them. "Walls darker than the floor, or ceiling darker than the walls, generate an imbalance in the dynamics of yin (female principle) and yang (male principle) energies," explains the professional.

Colors, personality and wishes of the mother

Aline Mendes points out that the warm tones are more linked to telluric energies (Earth), are stimulating and also welcoming. Thus, a mother who is looking for joy and movement in her life will tend to prefer these shades. Already the cool colors are linked to cosmic energies, are soothing and refreshing. A mother who is seeking tranquility, peace, will probably have sympathy for these colors ?, says.

But you need to be aware of the excesses, which can produce unwanted effects. • A room with excessively warm colors can make the baby agitated, and lead to problems such as insomnia or cramps. A room with excessively cold colors can lead to apathy and depression, weakening the immune system. Therefore, the ideal is to have a warm and cold color balance in the nursery ?, explains the architect and master in Feng Shui.

Colors meaning

The cooler shades of blue in Feng Shui analysis are associated with water. Bring tranquility, calm, introspection. But too much can stimulate fear and sadness. Warmer shades of blue, such as turquoise, work energetically like green ?, says Aline Mendes.

In Feng Shui, rose is associated with Fire, but in a gentle way. "It brings liveliness, lovingness, stimulation in the proper dose, without excesses", highlights the professional.

It is an earthy color, brings stability, safety and comfort. "In bright tones, it's associated with joy and is a stimulant to mental processes," says Aline.

This color, according to Feng Shui, belongs to the Metal category. It is a neutral color, prone to cold yin. It can be very interesting as a basis for applying details in other colors. But an all-white nursery becomes sterile due to lack of stimulation, and should it be avoided?

It is linked to abundance, fertility, creativity. Too much may cause agitation or irritability.

It is a tone that, in Feng Shui, is associated with the Fire phase. "It's very stimulating, being the most yang (masculine) color in the spectrum, and should only be used in detail in the nursery, never in large areas such as walls or curtains," says Aline.

Blue x Pink

In the past, it was directly associated with blue to boys, and pink to girls. This was true for the choice of room color, decoration details as well as the color of the baby's clothes. But does this idea still exist today? Or are mothers free to choose their favorite colors?

Aline Mendes explains that, almost everywhere, yang-male attitudes are most valued, such as action, impulsiveness, initiative and the predominance of the rational mind. Yin-feminine qualities are not as valued as receptivity, softness, warmth, and the predominance of feelings. These characteristics are often taken as weakness. It is therefore not surprising that girls can even wear the blue color, considered masculine, but it is not yet generally accepted that boys wear the pink color, considered feminine. Can we notice this differentiation in clothes and toys available on the market ?, highlights.

The professional adds that we can not ignore that there are physiological, emotional, cognitive and behavioral differences between boys and girls. “In general, boys are more agitated, so the soothing blue color is good for them. Similarly, girls are generally quieter, and a stimulating pink color is appropriate. But these are generalizations, we know there are agitated girls and quiet boys. The choice of color for the decoration of the room must then respect the individual characteristics of the child and family ?, concludes Aline Mendes.

You now know that colors have a major influence on an environment and have good tips to help you choose the color of your baby's room. After all, it is essential that this becomes a pleasant space to host special family moments!
