Tips for Moving Home Without Headaches

Moving home It is a drama. First you have to find the perfect place, then rush to hand over all documents and vouchers, sign the contract to finally set the date of change.

That's where a real marathon begins to box objects, name boxes, disassemble furniture. Just thinking about the mess already makes you feel discouraged and you want to give up. But the secret is to keep calm even with boxes scattered everywhere. There are tips for avoiding headaches and making the quieter change.

Where to start?

Before you start taking apart the whole house, keep in mind that planning and organization are the main tips to help change. Do not leave everything to the last minute.

One month in advance, start budgeting and hire reel or carrier. Start getting supplies to pack your belongings: cardboard boxes, newspapers, bubble wrap, and wide tape.

Prefer the medium and small boxes. Although they have room for more, the big boxes end up heavy and difficult to carry. First, pack objects that you don't use as much. CDs, DVDs, bedding and crockery can all come in this rush.

Be practical

Instead of taking your clothes out of the drawers, putting them in boxes, and then having to put them all back in place, be practical: put the drawers in large plastic bags and close with tape. You can also use suitcases to carry garments.

Do not remove clothes from hangers. Place them extended inside a box or suitcase. Then just hang them in the right place. To carry the bags, one solution is to put the smaller ones into the larger ones so they take up less space. Use pillows and blankets to protect dishes and fragile objects. They can line the boxes, cushion potential impacts and protect other objects.

Take the time to clean up. Separate unused clothing and objects and forward for donation. The tip also goes for furniture and appliances that you don't intend to take to the new home.

Be sure to notify the bank, shops, and other services you are customer of about address change. Update your registration to prevent mail from being routed to the old address and getting lost.

One week before the move, request that essential services (phone, electricity, cable TV) be shut down by the scheduled date of the move and transfer to the new address.

Start emptying the refrigerator and keep only food for the next few days. Put your belongings in boxes and dismantle the cabinets, beds and other furniture. Set aside a room to put the boxes already closed.

The day before, pack what is left in the fridge and clean it well. One suggestion for storing essentials such as a toothbrush, toiletries, work or study clothes, and valuables is to have each family member put them in a suitcase or backpack.

The day of change

On changeover day, get up early. Pass all necessary instructions to the hired team or divide the tasks among the family. For those who live alone, it is worth asking the help of friends to load the truck.

Leave the fragile boxes last. Placing them under others with heavy objects can have a disastrous result. After emptying the entire house, check each room to make sure nothing is left behind.

With all your things well organized at the time of change, you and your family will be able to put everything in place faster and enjoy the new corner right away.
