7 music series that will make you sing and dance while watching

The musical genre originated in theater around 1860 by combining three main elements: plot, interpretation and of course music!

In the cinema, the first musical film appeared only in 1927 and a few more years were necessary for the style to migrate also to the television.

Do musicals share opinions? they are adored by many and hated by others, but one thing is impossible to deny: you can't stand still to the sound of a good soundtrack and you can't get involved in the story when that track is well tied to the narrative.

1. Glee

The Glee series aired from 2009 to 2015, has six seasons and tells the story of a group of young people very different from each other but who had one thing in common: the music. These young people are part of the William McKinley High School choir and face teenage conflicts, personal discoveries and love stories while participating in music competitions.

The songs featured in the series are usually well-known and well-known versions of songs that have been released by record labels. However, the series also gave voice to some original compositions.

2. Smash

Smash unfolds around a group of artists who decide to team up to create a new Broadway musical inspired by Marilyn Monroe's life. At the same time they develop the play, the characters also have to deal with their complicated personal lives.

With only two seasons, the series has combined some well-known versions of songs with a host of original themes, composed especially for the narrative and released by Columbia Records.


3. Nashville

The city of Nashville is also known as the capital of the country, so it gives name to the series, which tells the story of various singers? fictional? country music and set in the well-known scenarios of the city. The narrative focuses initially on the rivalry between Rayna James, a well-known artist who has seen her career begin to decline, and Juliette Barnes, the new sensation of musical style.

The series has five seasons finalized and is set to release Friday at the beginning of next year. In addition, the songs in the series are compositions by local artists, known or not.

4. Empire

On the other hand, Empire has the world of rap as a backdrop. The series revolves around Lucious Lyon, a rapper and former drug dealer who thrived in the music industry and created the Empire label. Upon discovering a serious illness, the character tries to decide which of his children should take over the family business.

The soundtrack songs were composed for the series, which is about to debut its fourth season in the United States. This upcoming season will make a crossover ? a meeting between characters, scenarios and narratives? with another music series, Star.

5. Star

Star had its first season with twelve episodes airing between December 2016 and March 2017. Season two is scheduled to premiere in September.

The series follows three super talented singers exploring the music industry and striving for success. The episodes feature original songs and performances of the characters imagining their future as stars.

6. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is an American comedy series featuring Rebecca Bunch as the protagonist. Rebecca is a young lawyer in New York who, when reunited with Josh, her former boyfriend, decides to drop everything and move to the city where he lives in California.

The song appears sporadically in this series. Each episode has two or three original songs, usually performed by Rebecca or some character she interacts with, in the form of musical fantasies.

7. Galavant

Unlike all other series on the list, Galavant is a musical and comedy series, but it is also a medieval series. The story follows the adventures of the character who bears the name of the series, a hero trying to regain his reputation and the love of his life.

The episodes show Galavant's stories through musical numbers and the series has only two seasons and was canceled last year.
