Wall fabric: see why it's worth betting on this cover

Want to renew the look of your home without major renovations and spending relatively little? One tip is to invest in wall fabrics!

With different textures and prints available, wall fabrics can add color and life to a bedroom or living room, for example, making your home even more cozy.

The advantages of betting on wall fabric are pretty much the same as betting on wallpaper: variety of prints and textures, easy application and the possibility of changing the fabric if the resident gets sick.

Interior designer Malu Goraieb explains that with wall fabric you are not limited to books, prints, brands and prices. "The price of fabric, as well as paper, may vary according to weight," he says.

Still according to Malu, the placement of the fabric is quite simple. Allows you to do it yourself using only white glue. But it is important to have help from someone else to stretch the tissue and prevent blisters. If this happens, puncture with a needle and release the air?

How to choose wall fabric

Malu Goraieb points out that the variety of fabrics is wide. "Give preference to upholstery fabrics, 100% cotton tricoline fabrics that have elastane in the composition, are resistant to light and heat," he advises.

Still according to the interior designer, fabrics such as linen ennoble the environment, but require more care in the application: "you can not stretch the fabric too much and you must ensure that the wall has no leaks and is very smooth not to mark", say.

"It is worth adding that very thin fabrics such as silk, if exposed to the sun, can crumble," adds Malu.

What environments can be decorated with wall fabric?

Malu Goraieb explains that dry environments, such as a lobby, living rooms and bedrooms, can be decorated with wall cloth. "Areas such as kitchens and bathrooms often have a lot of moisture, and the contact of water with glue can soften, melt and spoil the fabric," he says.

The interior designer adds, however, that she does not recommend the use of wall fabric for those who have rhinitis, as it naturally accumulates dust.

How to apply wall fabric step by step

Below, Malu Goraieb explains how to apply the wall fabric:

  1. Make sure the wall is clean, smooth and use a level to scratch the line where the paper will be placed;
  2. Secure the fabric before applying the glue, make sure it is not bent (sometimes the walls are crooked and this influences the result);
  3. Use a wide brush to pass the glue with water;
  4. Press the fabric with a spatula, as if to put a sticker and remove the bubbles;
  5. Do not glue more than one strip on the same day, expect the first to dry, as some fabrics may shrink and create unwanted seams.

To ensure that the wall fabric is durable, thoroughly vacuum clean it once a week. If stains appear, you can wipe the fabric with a damp cloth and mild soap, always avoiding abrasive products.
