Did you know that the part you probably call the vagina is not your vagina? The outer part of the female genital organ, which can be seen, is actually the vulva. Only the region inside the body is the vagina itself.

It is in the vulva that are the large and small lips, for example. Check out a little more about your anatomy below.

  • Venus mound: It is that area just above the pubis, where they grow hair. In some women the mound of venus is fatter.
  • Big lips: These tissue folds are designed to protect the opening of the vagina from the entry of bacteria or fungi. The large lips are covered by pubic hair.
  • Small lips: they are inside the large lips and consist of mucosa. This is a very sensitive part that can increase in size at times of excitement.
  • Clitoris: It is located close to the junction of the small lips and is like an iceberg: only part is apparent outside the body. Filled with nerve endings, this organ has only one function: to provide pleasure.
  • Urethra: This is where the urine comes out. It is a channel that goes up to the bladder, belonging to the urinary system. Women's urethra is shorter than men's.
  • Vagina: It is the one that leads to the sexual organs within the body, and this is where menstruation blood comes from.
  • Hymen: membrane that covers the entrance to the vagina. This little skin usually breaks in the first intercourse, but it is not in all cases that happens.
  • Perineum: It is the part that lies between the vagina and the anus. Also known as the pelvic floor, the perineum supports the uterus, vagina, bladder, and rectum.
